This weekend Thing and I got to work sprouting our seeds. We filled two trays with seed starting mix and sprinkled in seeds for tomato, lettuce, pepper, broccoli, parsley, chives, red onions, and cukes.
Sowing the seeds was great fun. Plopping each future plant into the soil got us more and more excited about that wonderful day sometime in our future when we’ll be eating our first harvest of home grown goodness for the year. Seeds have so much potential in them!
After sowing the seeds, they got a generous sprinkling of water and a clear cover to create little greenhouses. These are sitting on the kitchen table waiting for seedlings to appear. I have pretty much given up on using the kitchen table for anything other than seedlings for at least the next 8 weeks, but in the meantime I get to have a whole bunch of life sprouting in the kitchen.
So far only the lettuces are showing any signs of life, but I hope that by the weekend I will have some wonderful photos of baby food plants to share.
