Ship’s Log–July 26th

I slept in again this morning to 7 am. Might be jet lag, but most likely it’s the gaping wound in my armpit that is demanding extra shut-eye time. Being in constant discomfort sucks. The sound itself isn’t so bad, just a bit of itching and aching once in a while, but the medical tape holding the bandaging in place is pulling and pinching my skin something awful. It’s like having a nagging toddler around who is constantly demanding at least some of my attention, and I’m finding it impossible to concentrate on anything. I feel for people who have chronic conditions and have to live with this level of pain or worse for far longer than the few days I will have to.

I spent much of today lounging on the sofa, trying to not irritate the wound too much. I really would like to get some exercise, but it’s not an option. My food choices are still not great, and I snacked too much both in the afternoon and in the evening, but then I’ve always been a stress eater and this week has been all about stress.

Breakfast:

  • Whole wheat everything bagel with peanut butter
  • Coffee with stevia

Morning Snack:

  • Iced peppermint, ginger and green tea

Lunch:

  • Chickpea and spinach patties (purchased at Costco. Not vegan because they contain egg)
  • Salad: Spring greens, grape tomatoes, cucumber, crunchy sprouts, carrots, tangerine balsamic, and a light sprinkle of Tuscan herb olive oil
  • Orange vanilla seltzer
  • Cold brew New Orleans style coffee with vanilla stevia and unsweetened soy milk
  • 70% dark chocolate

Afternoon Snack:

  • Iced peppermint, ginger, green tea
  • Popcorn with olive oil, salt, and Fauxmesan
  • Small oatmeal whole wheat blueberry muffin

Dinner:

  • Chickpea filet (homemade) with HP sauce and sriracha
  • Small baked sweet potato with Earth Balance spread and Sweet Fry seasoning from Karoo Kafe
  • Brussel sprouts cooked in olive oil and tossed with Fauxmesan
  • Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale

Late Night:

  • Another small oatmeal whole wheat blueberry muffin
  • Wasa crackers with hummus
  • Piece of 70% dark chocolate
