Ship’s Log–September 11th

I started today with another long birding walk in the woods, walking about 2 miles and seeing lots of my old favorites. The weather had returned to mid-summer hot and humid, so by the time I got back to the house I was completely soaked in sweat. This is, of coarse, the ideal way to talk to the police who are dealing with the truck drive who has just driven his semi down your street backwards and taken out one of the lines leading to your house. Thankfully the line he hit was the old cable, not the new one or the power, and I was pleasantly surprise to see that I still had power, internet, and phones once I got inside the house…though it did make me rethink the wisdom of a package deal. One line down and I could have lost all communications, and thereby the ability to either work (internet) or goof off and watch tv (cable) today. Goodness knows if I can’t do one I should be able to do the other!

The training plan for today was to do a short, easy run with Thing 1 when she got home from school, but when she got off the bus it was 95 out and stupidly humid. Given that she is showing signs of burning out and that running today would have been some form of torture, I decided to let us skip this run. This is taper week, and I would prefer not to miss any runs, but after yesterday’s rant against forcing kids to push themselves I couldn’t very well force the kid to push herself in those conditions. Instead we did back-to-back classes at the air-conditioned dojo.

Breakfast:

  • Smoothie: banana, blueberries, frozen cherries, red leaf lettuce, romaine, kale, chia seed, unsweetened soy milk, and water
  • Cinnamon raisin mochi with Earth Balance and maple syrup
  • Coffee

Lunch:

  • Salad: Red leaf lettuce, romaine, kale, grape tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, shiitake, cremini, avocado, chickpeas, smokey grilled tempeh, pistachios, Miso Mayo, and blackberry ginger balsamic
  • Lime seltzer
  • Coffee
  • Piece of 83% dark chocolate

Afternoon Pre-Class Mini Meal:

  • Apple with almond butter
  • Corn flakes with blueberries and almond milk
  • Mid-class: Water with NUUN Active Hydration Tablet

Dinner:

  • Amy’s Kitchen lentil vegetable soup with Daiya cheddar shreds and sriracha
  • Wasa cracker
  • Coconut seltzer

Late Night:

  • Glass of pinot noir
  • Wasa crackers with Daiya cheddar and sriracaha
  • Piece of baked tofu
  • Piece of 83% dark chocolate
