Ship’s Log–September 25th


I took today as a rest day to let my ankle recover from yesterday’s intense exercise. I had thought to go for a birding walk, but then Thing 2 announced that he wasn’t feeling well, so I wound up staying in the house with a sick kid, phoning the doctor’s office for ten minutes straight until I could get through to get him an appointment.

Short version: he’s fine. He’ll be back in school tomorrow.

My hearing tonight was not cancelled, so there was no temptation to hit the mats despite my decision to rest my ankle. Today would have been a full win, I think, had I had less of an afternoon snack rather than eating like I needed to fuel up for classes.


  • Smoothie: Banana, frozen cherries, red leaf lettuce, romaine, kale, flax and chia seeds, unsweetened soy milk, and water
  • Whole wheat English muffin with banana raisin peanut butter
  • Coffee with stevia

Morning Snack:

  • Apple cider spiced oolong


  • Salad: red leaf lettuce, romaine, kale, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, shiitake, avocado, buffalo wing tempeh and a dressing made with miso, sriracha, and blackberry ginger balsamic.
  • Mandarin orange seltzer
  • Cappuccino with unsweetened soy milk and vanilla stevia
  • Piece of dark chocolate

Afternoon Snack:

  • Almond rose tea
  • Carrots with hummus
  • Applesauce with granola
  • Popcorn


  • Butternut squash and chickpea soup with wilted spinach
  • Slice of European style pumpernickel
  • Chocolate strawberry tea with vanilla stevia

Late Night:

  • Glass of Merlot
  • Popcorn
  • Piece of dark chocolate
