Ship’s Log–November 9th


Today was the last day of my week-long sugar fast, and I am pleased with the results. I have had a bit more energy and a bit less water retention. It was not a miracle by any means, but it was another step in the right direction.

I allowed myself a small artisanal chocolate bar tonight to celebrate a week of success, but that doesn’t mean I am going to go back to chocolate every day. I rather liked the results of the fast, and so I am going to continue with minimal refined sugar in my diet as best I can. I am certainly going to keep the sugary treats restricted to just the weekends, and even then I hope to avoid going overboard.

Today’s Fitness:

45 minute MMA class


  • Whole wheat everything bagel with peanut butter
  • Coffee

Morning Snack:

  • Water with NUUN Active Hydration tablet


  • Sweet potato, cauliflower and chickpea mash
  • Field of Grains sausages cooked with onions and peppers
  • Red leaf lettuce, romaine, and kale with blackberry ginger balsamic
  • Grapefruit seltzer
  • Coffee with cardamom and soy milk

Afternoon Snack:

  • Handful of popcorn
  • Apple with peanut butter and raisins
  • No bake brownie bites

Dinner @ Whole Foods:

  • Salad with romaine, assorted roasted veggies, and bean salad with sesame ginger no-oil dressing
  • Small bowl of carrot ginger soup
  • Iced jasmine green tea


  • Small cinnamon and pepper chocolate bar
