Ship’s Log–January 4th

Today things finally felt back to normal, with a non-holiday schedule. Tonight there was some serious temptation to do take out of some sort for dinner, which was certainly part of our previous routine, but I pleaded with the family to at least make it more than 4 days before we go back to that bad habit. We made sandwiches at home rather than getting sandwiches from the Natural Market, which is a small step…but there were no potato chips, which is a much bigger step.

Fitness:

45 minutes vigorous MMA class, in which we worked on speed and conditioning, followed by 5 or so minutes of yoga and today’s 18 push ups for the January Challenge

Breakfast:

  • Vegan whole wheat pancakes with 1/2 banana sliced, walnuts, dried cranberries, and maple syrup
  • Coffee

Post-Class:

  • Water with NUUN Active Hydration Tablet
  • 1/2 Blueberry Vanilla Kind Bar

Lunch:

  • Wildwood tofu burger on whole wheat flat with smokey chipotleĀ mustard, lettuce, tomato, and avocado
  • Cole slaw made with chipotle mayo. (You may have noticed a lot of close slaw recently…I bought a head of green cabbage and a head of red and shredded them both for the week, which produced an amazing amount of vegetable material. We’re only about half way through it)
  • Peach-pear seltzer
  • Coffee

Afternoon Snack:

  • Cabernet Cocoa tea
  • Hummus with carrots and green olives

Dinner:

  • BLT with soy bacon on whole wheat
  • Steamed broccoli
  • Pint of ale

Late Night:

  • Wasa crackers with artichoke spinach spread
  • Olives
  • Dark chocolate with raspberries
