Ship’s Log–March 25th


Tonight’s BJJ class was a good and challenging one. I am usually partnered with either Thing 1 or another young lady, but tonight I worked with one of the guys. This is always more of a challenge–they tend to outweigh, out-muscle and/or out-rank me, so I have to roll harder and smarter to keep from being submitted.

On the food front I am experimenting with a four meal-a-day setup again, only this time I’m not going to snack outside those four meals. Two days in and so far so good. Having that extra meal makes me feel a bit like a hobbit, but a small meal rather than two meals worth of snacks mid-afternoon is probably going to be better for my long-term weight loss goals. Not having anything between lunch (11:30-noonish) and dinner (after class at 8 pm) just doesn’t work, because going that long without food makes me Hangry, and you wouldn’t like me when I’m Hangry.


  • March Full Body Challenge Day 25: 15 push ups/60 sit ups/65 squats
  • Evening: 1 hour BJJ


  • Oatmeal with cinnamon, applesauce, raisins, soy milk, banana, and red walnuts
  • Coffee with soy creamer


  • Tempeh avocado wrap
  • Broccoli slaw
  • Coffee with soy creamer

Afternoon Snack:

  • Small bowl of mesa sunrise cereal with strawberries and soy milk
  • Red-fleshed cara cara orange


  • Crispy corn tacos with tofu-chili filling, salsa, and guacamole
  • Romaine leaves
  • Full Sail Amber Ale
  • 1/2 dark chocolate and mint wafer cookie
