Ship’s Log–March 26th

I really considered postponing today’s training run. It snowed last night, though not enough to really stick to paved surfaces. Today was cold and windy. Very windy. It was the sort of wind that makes running unpleasant. Unfortunately, my work schedule for tomorrow won’t leave time for a run, so my choice was to run today or skip the run.

I chose to run today. It was not fun. The cold I can take. The wind I can take. But the wind making the lapels of my coat flap around and pull my ear buds out every 3-4 minutes, well, that was my breaking point. I owe an apology to everyone living to the east of my park who made have heard my frequent profanity-laced rants at my ear buds carried their way on the wind. Despite the cold air and annoyance the wind caused me, I was able to finish the run strong, meeting the time marks for each of the intervals. I’m glad I did the run today, leaving me tomorrow to rest my legs.

Fitness:

  • March Full Body Challenge Day 26: 20 push ups/70 sit ups/85 squats
  • Training Run: Speed intervals with warmup, drills, strides, 3 looooong intervals, and a cool down. Total of about 3.5 miles.

Breakfast:

  • Small smoothie: Banana, frozen mango, romaine, spinach, flax and chia seed, cinnamon, coconut yogurt, soy milk, and water
  • Cinnamon raisin Ezekiel muffin with almond butter
  • 1/2 small grapefruit with strawberry, broiled
  • Coffee with soy creamer

Lunch:

  • Baked sweet potato with sundried tomato herbed tofu spread
  • Black beans with salsa
  • Steamed broccoli with a drizzle of garlic olive oil
  • Coffee with soy creamer
  • Piece of dark chocolate

Afternoon Snack:

  • Post run: chocolate soy milk with a pinch of salt
  • Bowl of mesa sunrise cereal with blueberries and almond milk

Dinner:

  • Gardenburger on oat bran bun with sundered tomato herbed tofu spread, smokey chipotle mustard, tomato, and romaine
  • Pear

Late Night:

  • Small bowl of leftover brown rice and tofu
  • Piece of dark chocolate
