I took my achy foot on a moderately intense run today. I wore my “easy run day” shoes, Newton Energy, which are more cushioned than my usual running shoes, the Newton Gravity. My toes burned a bit there at the end, but they weren’t as achy as they had been after Wednesday’s run. I decided to go ahead and pack my running gear, though I don’t think I’ll follow the intense training schedule for the next week, while we’re traveling. Instead, I’m going to encourage my crew to join me on some shorter, slower runs through the places we’re visiting as another way to do some sightseeing.
The rest of my day was spent getting things in order for our immanent departure. I filed our taxes. I did the laundry so everyone else could pack. I picked up extra pet food for the house sitters. I googled directions to our first port of call several times. I stressed a fair bit about all of the above. I took a long bubble bath to try to ease the anxiety that I always get the day before traveling.
And tomorrow, bright and early, we head out for six days of adventure, with stops in Lexington, Virginia (to tour The Hub’s alma mater, Washington & Lee); Gatlinburg, Tennessee (Great Smokey Mountain National Park); and Shenandoah Valley National Park. I have no doubt that I will be bending the diet rules, as none of these places seems to be vegan hot spots, and I already know I’m going to try the local cheese plate I spotted on the menu at one of our hotels. I don’t know if I’ll be able to continue with my daily bogging while I’m away, but if the internet access allows it, I will share my misadventures.
