Ship’s Log–May 17th

I woke this morning feeling marginally better, though not fully well. I decided to try a few things to help clear my head: Claritin, exercise, and real pseudoephed (the sort you have to present a driver’s license, DNA sample, and urine test to prove that you are not Walter White before they’ll let you buy it). Nothing really worked fully, but by mid-day I felt at least moderately human.

This was good because this evening The Hub and I attend a reception for the wedding of one of his co-workers, and I needed to be moderately human. The event was at a gorgeous facility in Brooklyn, the brides were stunning, and by the end of the cocktail hour I could have murdered someone (perhaps the inventor of Spanx, which I wore for the first time tonight under my new dress) for the right to take off my cute-but-painful strappy, sparkly, heels.

I avoided over-eating at the reception mainly because almost nothing offered up was vegan-friendly. The Kobe beef sliders, lobster rolls, crab cakes, and ceviche all looked like they were wonderful, if you eat that sort of thing, but I do not. The Hub had told me that dessert was provided by our favorite vegan food truck (The Cinnamon Snail), so I feared I would eat ALL OF IT, but fortunately dessert did not make an appearance by the time we needed to head out for the long drive back home. It’s probably good that I didn’t overdo it on party food, but I worry that I am under fueled for tomorrow’s long run, which I am stupid enough to do even though I can’t really breathe through my nose.

Fitness:

  • 45 minute MMA class

Breakfast:

  • Whole wheat everything bagel with 1 tbs peanut butter and 1 tbs tofutti cream cheese
  • Fresh squeezed OJ
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk

Lunch @ Twisted Tree Cafe:

  • Soy chicken salad sandwich on oat bread
  • Side salad with miso ginger dressing
  • Tropical Tea Smoothie (strawberries, green tea, pineapple juice, and apricot juice)

Afternoon Snack:

  • Cold brew New Orleans style coffee with almond milk
  • Apple Cobbler Bar
  • Vega One bar

Dinner:

  • Brooklyn Lager
  • 1 hush puppy, 2 pieces of bread, and 2 olives
  • Fig Newtons
  • Mint green iced tea

Late Night:

  • Plantain chips
  • Handful of granola
