Ship’s Log–May 22

Today was one of those dragging, miserable, low-motivation days. It was dark and rainy. I’m tired from a late night out working. The nagging cough and sniffles are still pestering me. All I wanted to do was sit on my butt and nosh, which I did a bit too much of.

I did manage to pull myself out of it in the evening long enough to attend tonight’s mixed martial arts testing and graduation class at the dojo. These classes have become so much more fun to participate in now that, as a black belt, I’m no longer testing bi-monthly. Instead, I get to be there to help my lower-rank training partners as they test for new belts. There’s no pressure on me, so I can just enjoy the experience of helping them.

Fitness:

  • MMA belt testing and graduation (1 hour and 15 minutes of moderate intensity class)

Breakfast:

  • Cinnamon raisin Ezekiel muffin with peanut butter
  • 1/2 grapefruit broiled with sliced strawberry
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk

Morning Snack:

  • Smoothie: Vega One Vanilla Chai with frozen blueberries and almond milk plus

Lunch:

  • Red lentil and spinach soup with a piece of whole wheat naan.
  • Cucumber water
  • Low-fat fig newtons
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk

Afternoon Snack:

  • Freeze dried green beans
  • Small bowl of granola with banana and almond milk
  • Wasa cracker with hummus

Dinner:

  • Red leaf lettuce, romaine, kale, grape tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, and baked tofu with blackberry ginger balsamic
  • Wasa crackers with hummus
  • Handful of granola
