Ship’s Log–June 24th

This morning I took the Things over to our local park, along with a bag of fitness gear, and ran them through the first of many MMA Fighter Fitness training sessions. After warming up, we did some ladder drills, used the medicine balls, worked on our arms with resistance bands, and ended with some ab work before cooling down. I’m going to do this 2-3 times a week with them throughout the summer, in the park when the weather is gorgeous and in the house when it’s not.

This evening we met a friend for dinner and pints at a lovely bar in Asbury Park. I had to make a tough call for the dinner…there was a vegan chili on the menu, but I didn’t want anything that heavy. All the salads had cheese. I decided to go with a salad with a little feta cheese on it, because at least feta isn’t made from cow’s milk and so it disturbs my system less. It was a delicious salad, though not even remotely filling, resulting in a little late night snacking.

Fitness:

  • 45 minutes MMA Fighter Fitness training

Breakfast:

  • Banana, strawberries, and blueberries with plain coconut milk Greek style yogurt and granola
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk

Lunch:

  • Gardien burger with Daiya cheddar on whole wheat with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mustard
  • Leftover salads (kale slaw; arugula and white bean)
  • Cold brew New Orleans style coffee with vanilla soy milk
  • A palm full of chocolate chips

Afternoon Snack:

  • Small bowl of sweet cherries
  • Hummus and rice crackers

Dinner @ Brickwall Tavern:

  • Watermelon salad (a little arugula, a sprinkle of feta cheese, a pinch of pine nuts, red onions, and an enormous log of watermelon drizzled with balsamic vinegar)
  • A handful of The Hubs fries
  • Pint of Hell or High Watermelon ale
  • Pint of a strawberry wheat ale that tasted like a Strawberry Shortcake doll smells

Late Night:

  • Crackers and hummus
  • Granola and a few chocolate chips
