Ship’s Log–July 5th


The dojo is closed for the next week, giving our wonderful instructors a chance to take a vacation. This leaves us to fend for ourselves, workout-wise. This morning I packed up much of my fitness gear and took the whole family over to the high school’s turf field and ran them through 45 minutes of Fighter Training under the now-cloudless sky.

I spent much of the rest of the day baking (brownies and another double batch of blueberry muffins for the freezer) and watching the World Cup before heading out to a BBQ with friends.


  • 45 minutes of MMA Fighter Fitness Training


  • Whole grain blueberry corn muffin
  • Smoothie: banana, strawberry, frozen cherries, frozen blueberries, kale, flax seed, almond milk, and water
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk

Morning Snack:

  • Vega Sport Recovery protein bar


  • Tempeh grilled with teriyaki sauce in a whole grain flat bread with cole slaw
  • Pickled bean salad
  • Watermelon
  • New Orleans style cold brew with vanilla stevia and almond milk

Afternoon Snack:

  • Hummus and crackers

Dinner @ a friend’s house:

  • Pasta with vegan pesto
  • Grilled portabello mushrooms
  • Potato salad
  • Green salad with salsa
  • Chips, salsa, and guacamole
  • 2 Imperial lagers
  • Vegan, gluten-free brownies with mint icing
