Ship’s Log–July 13th

Today’s run was HORRIBLE. Thing 1 and I struggled and couldn’t even maintain a 10 minute per mile pace. It wasn’t too hot, but it was really, impossibly humid. The Hub was also out running, and he had such a hard time of it that he booted at mile 4, before going on to finish his 7 miles…which lets me know that it wasn’t just Thing 1 and struggling. The humidity really was that miserable.

I spent the rest of the day in the cool house, processing the huge quantity of fresh produce that I picked up at the Farmer’s Market this morning (after the run). I picked up 8 pints of blueberries, 2 pounds of cherries, and 2 quarts of peaches with the intention of freezing half of each for future smoothie use. I also found more basil and arugula and used those to make a big batch of pesto, 2/3 of which is also headed to deep freeze. So far I am pleased with the FoodSaver, and I’m on track to fill my chest freezer with fresh, local goodies by the end of the summer.

Fitness:

  • 7 mile long slow run

Breakfast:

  • Pre-run: Sprouted grain Ezekiel muffin with peanut butter and raspberry preserves; coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk
  • Post-run: Smoothie (banana, frozen blueberries, mixed greens, SunWarrior Warrior Blend Vegan Raw Protein in chocolate flavor, flax seeds, and water)

Lunch:

  • Smart Dog hot dogs on wheat buns with mustard and sauerkraut
  • Cole slaw
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk
  • 1/2 vegan vanilla cupcake with raspberry icing

Afternoon Snack:

  • Cucumber slices and hummus
  • Salt and pepper pistachios
  • 1/2 Vega Sport protein bar

Dinner:

  • 1 ear corn on the cob
  • Masala burger on multi-grain flat with spicy hummus and grilled pineapple
  • Summer wine with seltzer
  • Chocolate vegan cupcake with vanilla icing

Late Night:

  • NatureBox sticks and stones
