Ship’s Log–July 14th

I’ve decided to do a mini-challenge this week: no dining out. No take out. No trips to the coffee shop for cold brew. No trips to the ice cream parlor after an day on the beach. The only food I’m eating is what is already in the house. This is in part for my health, but also for my wallet and for the environment. Cold brew at the coffee shop is $3.75 a cup, but if I buy a jug of the extract and make the cup at home, it’s only $1.75 for the same thing. Well…not the same thing. At home, I use a reusable glass. At the coffee shop, I get a disposable cup. The at home version clearly produces less waste as well as costing me less. That’s what you call a win-win. Sandwiches from my local natural market are often $5.99 each ($9.95 at the deli by the beach) and come in disposable plastic tubs. At home, they cost a fraction of that, and I can package them in reusable containers.

Surely I can skip eating our for 7 days, right?
