Ship’s Log–August 10th


Every time I eat falafel, I retain water. Why did I eat it yesterday? Because it was the only vegan option at the festival.

Today I was a human water balloon, rolling around at the New Jersey Brazilian Ju Jitsu Federation tournament with my camera, snapping away at my teammates as they competed and I bloated.

Stupid, tasty, salty falafel.

At least my schedule today didn’t leave room for the long run, so I didn’t have to waddle 10 miles on these swollen legs. It also didn’t leave room for much healthy food prep, so again I didn’t eat ideally.

Weight change since July 30th: -1.1 pounds


  • Whole wheat pancakes with blueberries, banana, spiced pecans, and maple syrup
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk

Morning Snack:

  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk


  • Hummus, tomato, pickled pepper, and lettuce on multi-grain baguette
  • Bag of popcorn

Afternoon Snack:

  • Vegan chocolate cupcake topped with chocolate icing and pretzel pieces
  • Coffee with soy milk


  • Chips and salsa
  • 1 ear of grilled corn
  • Gardenburger on whole grain flat with hummus and salsa
  • Grilled pineapple
  • Summer wine with seltzer
  • 1/2 a vegan brownie
