Ship’s Log–September 10th


This evening’s class nearly did me in. Training in a hot room is hard. Wearing full gear, which consists of shin guards, big gloves, and a helmet, in a hot room while fighting is very draining. I “glistened” so hard that I drank a full bottle of water between classes, and it wasn’t enough. I pretty much sleepwalked through the second class.

After class, when we stepped out into the parking lot, the aroma of fried egg rolls from the nearby Chinese takeout restaurant was incredibly tempting. I wanted nothing more than to limp over and get a huge bag of oily, salty takeout instead of going home and making a healthy dinner while exhausted…but I limped home and made a healthier dinner anyway. Even with the beer, it’s not as bad as what a big plate of fried rice, fried tofu, and fried egg rolls would have done to me.

Distance to goal weight: 20.2 pounds


  • Morning: 1.5 mile stroll in the park
  • Evening: 45 minutes MMA class (grueling at that: it was hot and we sparred in full gear) and 45 minute BJJ


  • Oatmeal with applesauce, vanilla Greek style coconut milk yogurt, flax seeds, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and a wee bit of maple syrup
  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk


  • Salad: red leaf, romaine, red cabbage, red onion, fennel, carrots, cucumbers, avocado and tempeh dressed with miso, sriracha, and blackberry ginger balsamic
  • Freezer fudge

Afternoon Snack:

  • Coffee with vanilla stevia and almond milk
  • Apple with peanut butter
  • Wasa crackers with cashew cheese


  • Boca chicken patty with marinara sauce and Diaya provolone
  • Gluten free pasta with marinara sauce
  • Brussel sprouts sautéed in olive oil with braii salt, fauxmesan, and lemon juice
  • Slice of cantaloupe
  • Orange Shandy beer
