Ship’s Log–October 5th

We took a day trip today down to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge to do a little birding. The refuge is a real gem, and we spotted more than 40 species in the 3 hours we were there. We drove the 8 mile loop road through the tidal marshes and then took a short hike along the shore and through the grasslands.

Since the two young boys with us (Thing 2 and a friend) had behaved perfectly during the hours of birdwatching, The Hub and I decided to take them out for a treat. The staff at the nature center recommended a nearby frozen yogurt place, the sort of place where you buy a (too big) cup, serve yourself fro-yo, and then hit the huge toppings bar. The Hub and I made the mistake of joining them. I couldn’t eat more than half of my kiddie cup, which I think contained more chemical than actual food stuff. We all had bellyaches for a few hours afterwards.

Next time we visit Forsythe, I’m staying far away from the yogurt place.
