Ship’s Log–October 7th

Who would have thought that gargling beer would be so effective? This morning, the sore throat was just about gone. I’m still feeling drained and coughing a bit, but the throat was the biggest concern. Life is so much more comfortable when every swallow doesn’t hurt.

I probably shouldn’t have celebrated by pushing myself to run a full 5 miles today, but I’m nothing if not too stupid to rest when I’m feeling ill.

Distance to goal weight: 21.6 pounds

Fitness:

  • 5 mile slow run

Breakfast:

  • Sprouted grain cinnamon raisin bagel with peanut butter and raspberry preserves
  • A few fresh strawberries
  • Coffee with sugar and almond milk

Morning Snack:

  • Post-run: glass of coconut water
  • Coffee with sugar and almond milk

Lunch:

  • 2 soft corn tortillas with vegan “chicken,” salsa, and guacamole
  • Salad: mixed greens, cucumber, carrots, and red onion with Sicilian lemon white balsamic
  • Blueberry fig bar and small piece of chocolate

Afternoon Snack:

  • Rice cake with hummus
  • Cold brew New Orleans style coffee with almond milk
  • Dutch cocoa sunflower seed crunches

Dinner:

  • Tempeh, mushrooms, broccoli, and kale cooked in Korean BBQ sauce
  • Swiss chocolate with cognac filling

Later Night:

  • Harvest ale
  • Small bowl of pasta
  • Handful of Dutch cocoa sunflower seed crunches
