Ship’s Log–October 30th


My body hurt so much this morning. I could barely move. I think the take-down work we did last night is to blame. It was the first time I’ve worked on my take downs with an unwilling partner (one who was also fighting to take me down), and that puts a whole different kind of pressure on the body.

I am now looking forward to Sunday’s tournament even less. I have to bump up a weight class, which is horrible, but there’s no sign that this  bloating is going anywhere anytime soon. And now I hurt everywhere. I should probably have taken today off working out to rest, but there was a testing and graduation event at the dojo. Those are usually 45 minutes to an hour. I was not expecting the marathon session that we wound up having.

Distance to goal weight: 24.2 pounds. I am at peak bloat.


  • 1 hour and 45 minutes MMA testing and graduation class


  • Sprouted grain cinnamon raisin bagel with peanut butter and raspberry preserves
  • Smoothie: banana, strawberry, frozen blueberries, flax seed and water
  • Coffee with sugar and almond milk


  • 1/2 baked sweet potato
  • Tempeh, greens, onions, and mushroom sautéed with chili paste
  • Coffee with sugar and almond milk
  • Candy

Afternoon Snack:

  • Kale chips
  • Hummus and pretzels
  • Candy


  • Romaine with tomatoes, cucumber, and vegan chicken tossed with lavender vinegar and Tuscan herb olive oil

Late Night:

  • Newcastle werewolf ale
  • Potato chips
  • Dark chocolate covered bananas
