Ship’s Log–November 11th

My stress level is pretty dang intense today. Obviously there’s a situation going on in my life that I don’t want to share the detail of here, but I can tell you that it’s not the worst stress I’ve been under, but it is much higher than my usual life stress level. It should resolve in another day or two, probably in a way that will improve my family’s life significantly, but getting there is taking a toll.

To distract me today, my parents took me out for lunch to a local Mexican restaurant. My usual MO at this place is to stuff my face with chips and guacamole before the meal comes, even when I’m not feeling anxious. To keep this from happening today, we skipped ordering the guacamole, and though I did still race my parents to the bottom of the chip basket, we did not let them refill it.

Keeping my eating in control while going through this time of stress is hard, but I’m managing. I do think that avoiding feeding my stress with junk calories is actually helping me keep cope better, especially since I’m not layering food guilt on top of the main stress I’m dealing with.
