Ship’s Log–January 6, 2015

It snowed a bit today, and the temperature dropped to a seasonably appropriate frigid. I don’t know what this is going to mean for my ability to finish my 12 miles this week, but there’s nothing I can do about the state of my paths. Either I’ll be able to run them in a day or two, or I won’t. Next week’s forecast is warmer though, so I’m comforting myself by focusing on meeting my goal next week if it’s not safe to do it this week.

This afternoon I gave my pantry its annual clear-out, tossing anything that expired in the last year. I had a several cartons of unused coconut water. Guess what I won’t be buying any more? That’s a lot of money for something I probably don’t need only to let it spoil. The NUUN tablets I use during peak training season offer much the same vitamin and mineral profile, but they don’t spoil. The pantry is now fully cleaned, stocked, and ready to support better food decisions for me and my family.

Distance to goal weight: 22.4 pounds

Fitness:

  • 10 push ups, sit ups, and squats. I nearly forgot these after oversleeping this morning, but got them in after breakfast.
  • 1 hour BJJ. We learned a new sweep from spider guard. It was glorious.

Breakfast:

  • Whole grain tortilla with 2 scrambled eggs, sautéed kale, seating bacon, roasted red peppers, Diaya mozzarella shreds, and pesto
  • Whole fruit juice: banana, pineapple, blackberries, cara cara oranges, frozen blueberries, flax and chia seeds, and water
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Morning Snack:

  • Vanilla Mint Chai with a little honey and vanilla soy milk

Lunch:

  • Baked sweet potato with BBQ mayo
  • Beyond Meat chicken strips
  • Broccoli and cauliflower sautéed with olive oil and Old Bay Seasoning
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Afternoon Snack:

  • White tea
  • Hummus with carrots and gluten free crackers

Dinner:

  • Pizza waffles (pre-made crescent roll dough stuffed with tomato sauce, Daiya mozzarella, and vegan pepperoni and cooked on a waffle iron) topped with tomato sauce
  • Mixed greens with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and faux parmesan
  • Newcastle Ale
  • Apple with toffee pecan honey butter
