Ship’s Log–January 10th, 2015

PicShellsThis morning’s double classes felt good. It’s nice to finally be back into a regular training rhythm after nearly two weeks off for the holidays. It’s also nice to be moving away from the holiday eating…all that sugar takes its toll on the body rather quickly.

Tonight’s dinner wasn’t the best, I’ll be the first to admit, what with those waffle fries…BUT it is a huge improvement over what we would have normally had on a night like tonight. Thing 2 had a friend sleeping over, and like most 11-year-old boys, this kid is a picky eater by our standards. He won’t eat anything that is what I would consider healthy. ¬†Normally when this you man spends time with us we wind up eating out (he’ll eat the pasta with butter at Noodles and Company) or ordering a plain pizza. Neither of those are options in our current low-budget, no take-out eating plan.

The one thing that this kid will eat that I tend to have in the house is Wegmans vegetarian chicken nuggets, so we picked up a bag of those and a bag of waffle fries to see if we could make a meal out of that for him. The Hub and I opted for a wrap rather than the nuggets (one does want a hint of vegetable!), but I knew better than to think I would be able to sit there and watch the boys eat waffle fries while I had carrot sticks. The resulting meal was a bit of a compromise, but far better than the half a Grandmother’s Pie I would have downed if we had ordered pizza.

Distance to goal weight: 23.3 pounds

Fitness:

  • 10 push ups, sit ups, and squats
  • 45 minutes MMA
  • 45 minutes no-gi BJJ

Breakfast:

  • Whole wheat everything bagel with peanut butter
  • Small glass of orange juice
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Lunch:

  • Bowl of red lentil sweet potato coconut curry soup with spinach
  • Small dish of gluten free crackers
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Afternoon Snack:

  • Apple with pecan toffee honey butter
  • Popcorn
  • Peppermint green tea

Dinner:

  • Whole grain tortilla with vegan “beef,” romaine, roasted red pepper, and BBQ mayo
  • Waffle fries (cooked in the oven) and ketchup
  • Clean Slate Riesling

Movie Night:

  • 1/2 box of Junior Mints
  • Chamomile tea with honey
