Ship’s Log–January 12th, 2015

If any of y’all thought I was a wuss for skipping my recent runs for fear of the ice (I know you don’t Sue, but not everyone has your refined sense of Risk Management), rest assured that I made the correct call. I learned that one of the members of our local running group slipped during his Saturday run and broke his hip. He had not brought a phone with him, and so he had to drag himself on the frozen ground until he found help. So that kind of thing really does happen, and it happened here Saturday.

But not to me, folks, not to me.

In other news, the head cold that was starting up yesterday has moved in and settled down. I did not do a meaningful workout again today, opting instead for a lot of hot tea, pseudoephed (the real stuff that you have to show ID for, not the placebo nonsense), and bingeing on brownies. That last part wasn’t wise, but I’m a tired, cranky chocoholic, and there they were in the kitchen, calling my name all day long. The good news is that after today, there’s only one left. I am desperately hoping that someone else eats it tomorrow before I do. One day of bingeing isn’t too terrible, but if I start up again tomorrow I may also remember the big bag of truffles I hid in the back of the cabinet, and nobody wants that.

Distance to goal weight: 23.3 pounds

Fitness:

  • 10 push ups, sit ups, and squats

Breakfast:

  • Whole grain tortilla with leftover kale mixture, 2 scrambled eggs, and a pinch of Daiya mozzarella
  • Whole fruit juice: banana, pineapple, blackberries, cara cara orange, frozen blueberries, flax and chia seed, and water
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Morning Snack:

  • Tea with honey and lemon

Lunch:

  • Whole wheat bread with Daiya swiss, tofurky, roasted red peppers, and champagne dill mustard
  • Potato chips
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk
  • Leftover brownies

Afternoon Snack:

  • Peppermint green tea
  • Apple with peanut butter and brown rice syrup

Dinner:

  • Vegan “beef” burger on whole wheat bun with guacamole, tomato, and missed greens
  • Broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots dressed with a little BBQ mayo.
  • Another brownie

Late night:

  • Chamomile tea
  • More brownies
