Ship’s Log–January 28th, 2015

Every day now I’m feeling a bit better. Today I felt well enough to attempt two classes, and though I gassed out near the end of the second, it felt good to be back to my more normal workout…provided that normal means waving off a second round of rolling because I was too sore and gassed to take on a 23-year-old male white belt.

Pretty soon I’m going to have to reassess my plans to compete next month. My arm still aches from the vicious arm bar I took during one of the testing days back in November, and I’m not sure I want to attempt competition level rolling with a gimpy arm. It’s one thing to let my training partners, who I know and trust, put an arm bar on this thing. They all go slowly and give my plenty of time to tap. In competition, I can’t count on that kind of mercy. I really did expect the darn thing to have healed by now, especially after giving it more than week off through the holidays, but the pain is still there. Not much pain, but enough to make me worry.

I guess I’ll give it another two weeks. Maybe it just still aches because I’ve been ill.

Distance to goal weight: 22.8 pounds

Fitness:

  • 10 push ups, sit ups, and squats
  • 45 minutes MMA
  • 45 minutes BJJ

Breakfast:

  • Whole grain English muffin with scrambled egg, vegan Canadian bacon, and Daiya cheddar
  • 1/2 grapefruit and sliced strawberry, broiled
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Morning Snack:

  • White tea

Lunch:

  • Cup of black bean soup
  • Mixed greens and Daiya mozzarella quesadilla
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Afternoon Snack:

  • Hummus with carrots and gluten-free crackers
  • Peppermint tea
  • Before Classes: banana

Dinner:

  • Vegan burger on whole wheat bun with BBQ sauce, guacamole, tomato, and mixed greens
  • Sautéed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots with Old Bay seasoning
  • Vanilla porter
  • Dark chocolate covered frozen banana medallions with almonds
