Ship’s Log–February 13th, 2015


This morning I woke to a body that is sore everywhere, but particularly my upper back and arms. We ended class last night with a circuit that must have done me in. I guess it’s good to have worked out so hard, but the end result was that I needed to take a day off to recover. I’m guessing it was the new uppercut bag that did me in, based on where it hurst most, though it could have been those pushups and pull ups in the TRX-like straps. Either way…ouch.

My food today wasn’t stellar. The only “salad” I have was a handful of romaine in my morning juice. Given that I didn’t work out, I should have skipped the peanut butter on the apple. The donut, though, I make no apologies for. I got four of those as a Valentine’s Day gift to my family, which also preempts the need to gorge on chocolate all day tomorrow. Everyone has now had their holiday treat, scratching that itch, and those were calories that were worth the splurge.

Distance to goal weight: 23.2 pounds


  • Rest day. too sore for anything else


  • Whole grain tortilla with scrambled egg, vegan bacon, wilted greens, and Daiya shreds
  • Whole fruit juice: banana, strawberries, blackberries, orange juice, frozen blueberries, romaine, flax and chia seed, and water
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Morning Snack:

  • Peppermint green tea with honey and lemon


  • Tempeh, red onion, red pepper, carrots, broccoli and Udon noodles with spicy miso sauce
  • Coffee with vanilla soy milk

Afternoon Snack:

  • Apple with peanut butter and raisins
  • Chocolate mint tea with vanilla soy milk

Valentine’s Day Treat:

  • Red velvet donut with Bavarian cream, red velvet Oreo, and vanilla and chocolate glaze (this is in the 20% of eating naughty column for sure)


  • Red lentil sweet potato soup
  • 1 slice of whole grain bread
