So…yesterday was an odd day. My birthday started off well, with my darling children rising early to make me a breakfast of whole wheat blueberry chocolate chip pancakes. Yum. We placed the dishes in the dishwasher, walked Thing 2 to the door to say goodbye, and then heard the sound of rushing water from the kitchen.
The dishwasher was dying. It bled out hot dirty water, gallons of it, all over the kitchen floor and, subsequently, into the basement below. The darn thing had gotten stuck in the fill-er-up stage of it’s cycle, so much so that even stopping the cycle and opening the door did not stop the water from continuing to flood into (and out off) the unit.
The next part of my birthday was spent cleaning up the mess and then shopping for a new dishwasher. It will be installed later this week, I hope.
By late afternoon I needed something good to happen, so The Hub agreed to head out birding with me. There had been reports of two Harlequin Ducks being sighted not too far away, and since I’ve been wanting those for my life list, we went and found them. These guys are salt water ducks, and they like rocky areas, so they were out near a big old-school jetty. The Hub and I clambered over the jumbled rocks to the viewing platform at the end and then back again, a trek which I normally would have handled with ease, but in my current state it nearly did me in…or maybe just the light amount of exertion was what I needed to break whatever little fever I still had. I had a good sweat, and from that point on I started to feel a good deal better. My head hurt less and my energy level improved.
I hope this means that I’ll soon get to say good riddance to this sinus infection once and for all. I haven’t been able to get in any sort of workout in about a week now, and I’m start to go buggy because of it. However, I want to make sure I’m all the way better before I push myself hard. I need to end what has become a cycle of getting almost better and then falling ill again the moment I try to get back on the mats.

- Breakfast: Whole wheat blueberry chocolate chip pancakes with pecans and maple syrup; broiled grapefruit; coffee with vanilla soy milk
- Morning Snack: Peppermint, ginger, and bee balm tea with honey
- Lunch: Tempeh avocado wrap sandwich; sea salt and vinegar potato chips; mint green iced tea; coffee with vanilla soy milk
- Afternoon Snack: Banana
- Dinner: Black bean “cheese” burger; clementine
- After Dinner: Spiced hot toddy
